How to increase your writing percentage on Helium

by Joan Inong

Created on: October 19, 2009

All writers who wish to improve their writing will take the time and effort to learn how to do so. Helium writers can easily increase their writing percentages by following a few simple tips. This article will help you earn those writing stars in no time.

Write more

The key to earning more stars is to simply write more. The concept is simple: the fewer articles that you have, the greater the chance of the poorly-rated articles pulling your writing percentage down. Not only that, but Helium's algorithm (which is unknown to all Helium members, at this point), suggests that the more articles you have, the more writing stars you'll have. That is why you necessarily will get five writing stars if you have written more than 499 articles. However, you won't earn those stars if you do not have a writing percentage greater than 75%. In other words, you must have both more than 499 articles and a writing percentage greater than 75%.

Rate more

Many Helium members will not think that their rating score has anything to do with their writing score. Inadvertently, it does. If you choose, you can do this simple experiment: do not rate for a long time (such as a couple of months), and you may see your writing score gradually decrease. This also applies to the number of writing stars that you have. If you want to keep both your writing and rating stars, you have to rate consistently.

Double-check your articles

If you have written more than 100 articles, you may have forgotten all about the first 50. Your writing score will be affected by those first 50, and the less that you pay attention to those articles, the more your writing score will slowly decrease. So, if you want to increase your writing score, you have to go back to your first few articles at least once or twice a month, even if you only make a few changes. Also, leapfrogs will tremendously help your writing score. Make sure that your leapfrogs actually help your articles. Some leapfrogs will have raters rating your articles for the worse.

If you want to increase your writing percentage on Helium, the best way to do so is to pay attention to your articles. Write more, rate more, and make sure that your articles are top-notch. The more articles that you have in the upper 75% of titles, the more your writing percentage will improve.
