The reason it is the best selling mp3 player and enjoys majority of the market share is because of the easy of buying and organizing music on iPod. iTunes plays a major role in downloading the songs to iPod from various sources be it ripping the songs from music CDs, or some single mp3 that you bought from online music stores like
amazon.com or emusic.com, or songs directly bought from apple store.
The methods below will guide you to put your songs on iTunes music library from any media of your choice and then to the iPod device.
# Ripping the songs from music cd
Putting the songs from music cd to iPod is very simple. I will put a step by step process for putting the songs in your CD in the iTunes music library.
1. Open iTunes on your computer.
2. Insert the CD into the computer drive.
3. Click on the "Import" button to import the CD to iTunes.
4. Wait for the songs to be imported to iTunes Music library. You will see a green check mark to indicate that the import is complete.
5. Check the songs on the Music Library and confirm that the properties for all the songs is complete.
6. Connect your iPod to your computer. If autosync is enabled for your iPod, it will copy all the new files from music library to your iPod. If autosync is not enabled on your iPod, click the button "Sync Now".
# Copying single tracks
This is the most used method of putting songs to the iPod. It is because nowadays most to the songs are available in the mp3 format and you can choose to buy just a single song instead of buying the whole CD. You can buy single mp3 tracks for digital music stores like amazon.com and emusic.com. Follow these steps to add your singles to iTunes music library.
1. Open iTunes on your computer.
2. Add files to the music library.
If you want to copy over a single track, choose File -> Add File to Library... The shortcut for this is Ctrl + o. This will open a box, "Add to Library". Browse and select the single song that you want to copy over to iPod.
If you want to copy over many tracks, choose File -> Add Folder to Library... This will open a box, "Browse for Folder". Browse and select the folder for which you want to copy all the songs to your iPod. This will also copy over any artwork you have in the folder and assign it to all the songs copied.
3. Update the song properties in case it is required.
