There is one golden rule when it comes to kid's Halloween costumes; the outfit needs to be effective and not expensive. If you abide by this rule, not only will you be saving on your budget for this year, but also your kids will love the new, cool Halloween costumes.

Cardboard box costumes are always the most appealing, and they hold endless number of possibilities, almost anything in a shape of a box can be used as an inspiration. One of the most common examples is the Popcorn box costume. The box would need to be covered with butcher paper, and just add red stripes so it would look like a popcorn box. When in the process of fitting the costume, do not forget to cut the holes for arms and for the head. Once the fitting is over, and you have painted the box, all that is left to be done, is to glue some popcorn at the top of the box and maybe some on the sides.

People always feel proud of themselves when they use something old and useless to make something completely new and fun. For this purpose, you need some old white sheet and a little bit of your imagination. Make a ghost costume, take a sheet, and cut holes for arms and head. Once this is done, start dressing up your ghost, give it new clothes, some make up, it can be a cowboy or a princess ghost, whatever you feel might be appropriate. Now, that you have given your old ghost a new meaning and purpose in life, the costume is done.

A Quasimodo costume is easy to make, and it costs you virtually nothing. However, you might need to invest a little more time than usual. You need some foam, or a simple cardboard to build a hunchback. When completed, the rest of the job is easy. You will require some old clothes, which you need to tear up a bit, or rub some dirt in it, to make it more believable. Set the improvised hunchback in position, maybe glue it to the shirt to keep it steady, to avoid any accidents. You might need bigger clothes, since the improvised item will take up a lot more space.

Bag of Jellybeans is probably the most successful Halloween costume ever, and it is quite simple to make. The requirements are one plastic bag, the bigger the better, many balloons, if you could find some colorful balloons that would be on the plus side, and some string. All you need next is to make the necessary holes for your arms and legs. Leave the opening at the top, which is precisely the place from where you will be filling your bag with the colorful balloons. Try to find the small ones, that way you can place more balloons, and make the costume more interesting. Finally get someone to help you tie the bag, given that all the balloons will practically make it impossible for you alone to complete the job.

Finally, the Rubik Cube or the Pair of Dices are the last in the category of cardboard box costumes. They are easy to make, all you need is some paint and of course a huge box.

Cheap Halloween costumes come with numerous advantages. Not only do they cost next to nothing, but also they include the entire family in the process, especially the children. Let them be creative, you can observe and watch if they acquire your assistance, but having fun is the most important factor of Halloween, and fun is exactly something they will have in abundance when making these costumes.
