What makes a resume stand out?

Your resume should be in chronological order and without misspelled words.

Don't put you are 'dependable' on your resume everybody uses this word and it has become generic to an employer.

You should use the following words to describe yourself such as: energetic, highly motivated, fast learner, flexible and quick to learn.

The font on your resume should not be smaller than a size 11 font anything smaller will make it difficult for an employer to read.

Your resume should consist of one page unless there is a request for a cover letter or reference page.

Don't list Colleges or Trades Schools that you didn't complete on your resume because it will appear that you don't finish what you start.

When you do a resume the best way to make yours stand out from other resumes is to put it on quality paper and don't use a generic resume format. If you can afford it have a professional resume preparer do it for you or purchase a professional resume program for your computer if you know how to do a resume.

Use brief but quality descriptions of each job you have done for each employer but don't use I to describe your job duties or your assigned title.

Here is an example: As a Housekeeper I clean rooms and vacuum floors (this is incorrect) this is the correct way: Housekeeper-the title should be above the description, the description should read-Duties included vacuuming, mopping and sweeping floors in addition to cleaning rooms and changing bed linen daily.

If you want to really catch an employer's eye when you submit a resume to them list your skills and qualifications at the top of the resume and then do a brief summary that explains to the employer how your skills and qualification match up with the job you are applying for.

Use this format if you have only a H.S. Diploma or GED. If you have various degrees you can list your education first your qualification second and your skills third, because once the employer reads education first he or she will see how education, qualifications and skills are relevant to the position you are applying for in the company.

If you follow all of these steps when creating a resume that will stand out to catch a potential employer's eye, I am quite sure you will receive more calls for an interview.
