How to make do-it-yourself SEO work for your home business

Your home business needs efficient SEO to ensure plenty of target traffic reaches your marketing articles, sales page, business blog or website. It is not necessary to pay for the services of an SEO professional to succeed in search engine optimization. Do-it-yourself SEO can work just as well for a home business. You could even see better results than you would get from some SEO companies.

[1] Identify best performance keywords.

Search engine optimization is based on use of keywords. Before you learn how to use those keywords you need to know how to identify the best performance keywords for your home business.

Each article or blog post you write should contain appropriate keywords. These can be single words or short phrases that are used in Internet searches, which exactly match some of the words and phrases in your articles or blog posts.

You should aim at using slightly different keywords in each article or blog post you write. This allows more of your content to show up in more search results. People use many search terms to find the products and services you supply from your home business.

* Keyword research can be carried out using free online keyword tools.

[2] Keyword density

How you use your keywords is of great importance in do-it-yourself SEO. Having selected the top keywords for your article or post, be sure to repeat those exact same words or phrases several times in your text.

Make sure your opening paragraph features your top keywords, preferably in the opening sentence. This enables search engine spiders to pick out relevant words in your text and index your content effectively.

* Titles and tags must include top keywords for effective SEO.

When writing articles and posts that feature specific keywords, do ensure your writing flows naturally and does not become too repetitive. Information must be presented so it is easy to read, it must make sense and be useful to your visitors. Poor quality keyword content will not perform well online and will discourage potential customers.

* Subheadings and link descriptions can be devised to include keywords. Each short paragraph or bullet point you write can feature a different keyword.

Readers and search engine spiders should not notice that your content is deliberately packed with keywords. When writing an article or blog post of 400 to 500 words, one keyword could be repeated 25 times, but it would be better to feature two or three keywords and repeat each one four or five times.

* Recommended keyword density is 3% to 5%, and never more than 10%.

[3] SEO content

Do-it-yourself SEO for your home business requires regular posting of original new content, so each blog post and every article you publish online gets indexed by search engines. Good SEO content generates plenty of traffic and should be used to target potential new customers for your home business.

You know your own home business best. You can write your own web content and post on your own business blog. There is no reason why you should not do your own SEO, and make it work for your home business.
