Suggesting a title on Helium is really quite easy, and even coming up with a title is typically not all that difficult once you have an subject f or your article. In fact often there will other titles on other subjects that can show you the exact format of titles that those at Helium, you simply fill out a form and then usually within the day you will get an emailed response.
Once you have an idea you will want to look through the archives for articles on a similar subject. No matter what it is you are talking about there is probably something similar in theme. In this way you can usually replay the subject of that article with your own. For example if you want to write a book review you would look at the book reviews and see that they are typically written in the same style. Book Review: Title, by Author. In this way it is very simple to know exactly how to write the title.
If you can not find anything that is close enough to your idea to use as a template then the key is to be clear and direct with the title. The key to a Helium title is to make certain that anyone who reads the title would not only know what the article they are about to read is about, but understand the subject well enough to write an article themselves. Avoid questions, allusions, or cliches. These can be useful tools in writing the title for an article for yourself but they do not fit Helium's style.
Once you have the title you want you will find the Write button on the top of the screen, near the right. This will take you to a screen that has several options. Under the Write Now Section near the left you will see a button that says "Suggest A Title". Click on this and it will take you to a very simple form. There are only two things you must fill out here and one that it optional. The first is the title you want. Keep it short and simple.
Next is the keywords. These can be anything that is connected to your article and will help searches but won't be seen. The keyword for each of the major points you want to make should be here.
Third and optional is a search phrase. If you know people are going to be looking up a specific phrase and want them to find your article put it here. Most of the time it is safe to leave this blank.
Once you have filled out the first two lines the next button will appear. This will bring up a list of articles that have titles or keywords similar to yours. Read this carefully to ensure that there are no articles that you can use. If there are not click submit.
Soon you will get an email that either has a link to the article or an explanation of why the title hasn't been suggested. Typically if it has not been accepted it is simply because of style and will be very easy to fix. In this case you will simply want to alter it and resubmit. And it is as simple as that.
