Halloween costume ideas for babies

It is the time of year when Ghosts and Goblins run rampant through otherwise quiet neighborhoods. Ghosts float silently from neighborhood trees and glowing pumpkins smile eerily out at anyone who chances by. It is Halloween, and it is time to costume up, and join in on the night time celebrations. The kids are dressed to trick and treat, and you have no problem costuming yourself, but how the heck are you going to costume up the baby? That little wiggling, squiggling, gurgling, and burping teeny weeny human needs to be included in Halloween too. So what do you do?

Well you could disguise the baby as just that, a wiggly squiggly creature such as a worm, slug, butterfly or caterpillar. This costume can be purchased or easily made from scratch by sewing cloth into a narrow sleeping bag type garment. Leave room for the arms to escape. The baby's legs can either be encased within the costume, or able to hang out of the costume depending on the age of the child, and whether you will be indoors or outdoors. A pinkish, green, or beige fabric should be used for a slug or worm while black or bright colors should be used for a caterpillar or butterfly. Antennae can be fashioned from brightly colored pipe cleaners or purchased at any local department store. Wings should be designed from fabric and remain floppy as the baby's wings will have to fold up close to their costume when baby is being held.

There are also a number of animal costumes in smaller sizes for baby. These are designed much like a pajama with a hood. The hood usually has ears attached to it while the costume itself will generally come with mittens and a tail on the bum section. There are white bunny, brown bear, dinosaur, giraffe, elephant white or pink mouse, kitty cat, and Dalmatian puppy dog costumes in these designs. If you search Online you are guaranteed to find virtually any animal or fictional character that you can imagine. The great thing about this choice of costume is that it is generally snuggly and warm for baby even if you are venturing outdoors. Great Online sites for costume hunting are www.amazon.com and www.shopzilla.com. Just type what you are looking for in their search box and they'll come up with your choices.

If you and baby are considering going as ghouls, ghosts, or mummies then these are very easy costumes to come up with. These creatures come in all shapes and sizes so baby will fit in easily as one. Just remember that for safety reasons make up should not be applied on the baby. You will have to count on the costume itself to portray baby's Halloween identity.

Of course you could just fashion baby up to match your costume. Baby can either be an exact mini of whatever you are going as, excluding any makeup of course, or baby can be themed to match your outfit. If you are a witch then baby can be a black cat. If you are a doctor or nurse, then baby can be a bacteria, germ, pill bottle, or package of bandages. The choices are endless and all it takes is your overactive imagination to come with a suitable theme; exterminator and bug, pirate and first mate, Batman and Robin, police officer and prisoner, eskimo and seal pup, cowboy and indian, salt and pepper, or Winnie the Pooh and his honey pot. Guess which one of you will be the honey pot? King, Queen and Court Jester? Football star, cheerleader, and football? Go wild with your costume ideas, just remember to keep baby's costume soft, warm and flexible, so that baby's comfort and safety are always the key factors in its design.

Happy Halloween Spooking. Have fun out there.
