The basics of creating a website

Creating a website is a must have technique in a modern marketing arsenal. There are various types of websites that require different tasks to both set up and efficiently manage. Always remember that when having a website, the entire process takes maintenance and management. You will need to have upkeep on your website, either done by yourself or a webmaster.

E-Commerce

When creating an E-Commerce website you must consider many unique characteristics. There has to be some way for customers to pay for goods. I recommend using built-in, PayPal buttons that allow you to carry out the transactions through PayPal directly. To successful build and maintain a good E-Commerce site you are going to want specific knowledge of HTML, CSS and PHP. You can get by with just those three technologies if your site is basic. To add user logins becomes increasingly complicated.

Portfolio

Portfolio sites have become more and more sophisticated. Photographers, musicians and other artists use the internet to market and brand themselves. Usually this involves some sophisticated and modern design and good software to know is Adobe Flash and Adobe Photoshop. Both pieces of software are crucial to designing a professional and clean portfolio and are must know technology. You would also need the basic HTML and CSS knowledge to work your site.

Blog

Blogs are incredibly painful to manage on their own so I will only recommend using Blogger, Word Press, or Helium. Blogger can be the best if you download free templates and make your blog stand out. I recommend using Helium to start blogging because they provide an amazing opportunity. I also recommend creating a free blog using Blogger and linking them together. Blogging is the best way to get started quickly with a fully functional site.

File-Sharing/Self Publishing

An interesting new website option that has arisen is using the web to store your own personal information and files without making it public to anyone else. This allows you to access files anywhere. Using Google Accounts, you can access documents, site building, calendars, E-mail and more from anywhere you have internet access. You can work on a document anywhere there is internet and the changes are made in real time on the Google servers. Google has a feature called Google sites with which you can have a site with different pages including a file cabinet you can store files on, a to do list that is functional, links to everything memos and other text files.

Universal Important Web Design Technologies

All web designers should know how to setup their website on a server. Once you buy web hosting you have to upload your files to the server. These files must stay in the exact same location as your root folder and must be uploaded to the correct places. This can prove to be rather frustrating.

Basic web design requires a familiarity with HTML, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), Photoshop and being organized with all of your files. You can make very attractive sites with one style sheet and just keeping your pages and pictures organized. If you master the core technologies you have the key to expand into the true forefront of web technology. Master HTML, CSS, Flash and Photoshop and you can make any basic website look and function well.
