The woman, chosen by God the Father to be the mother of God the Son, has been traditionally called Mary the mother of God. Her humble 'Yes' to the will of God exalted her to be the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son.
Ten Reasons To Call Mary The Mother Of God
1) From the beginning of the Church Mary was called mother of God
From the earliest days of Christianity, Mary was honored and called mother of God. This appellation comes in a tradition of dogma, belief, veneration and cultic worship which are inter-connected. Though it is not found in the same form and terminology in the Gospel or other books of the New Testament, it is a later socio-historical development.
2) The traditional dogma 'Mary mother of God'
The Roman Catholic Church defined the truth that 'Mary is the Mother of God' as a dogma of faith. The Council of Ephesus in 431 AD confirmed this dogma and attributed to Mary the title Theotokos, which means Mother of God, in reference to the 'single personality' of Christ, as true God and true Man.
3) If we accept Jesus as the Son of God, naturally Mary becomes the mother of God
We accept Jesus fully as human and fully as God. In that case his incarnation will be complete only if we call Mary fully as his mother. Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ in every respect, who suffered and redeemed humanity through the flesh and blood that Mary nursed an nurtured. It is a special God-given privilege to Mary.
4) Mary gave birth to Jesus, as a whole person
In giving birth to Jesus, Mary gave birth not just to the human nature of Jesus, but she gave birth to the full person of Christ. And since the person of Christ is one and the same divine person of God the Son, it is quite correct to say that, in giving birth to Jesus, Mary became the Mother of God.
5) Mary has been the mother of God from eternity
God, in His plan of redemption, promised in the beginning itself, I will make you enemies, you and the woman, your offspring and her offspring. (Genesis 3:15) The woman mentioned in Genesis is none but Mary. In calling Mary as the mother of God Christian tradition always meant that she is not the Mother of God the Father, but only with reference to the birth of Jesus, that is, the Incarnation of God the Son.
6) Angel Gabriel's greeting
The annunciation greeting by Angel Gabriel, Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you and his message You hall conceive and bear a son and you shall call him Jesus (Luke1:28, 31) is a recognition from God to call Mary as the
