Society is becoming controlled by technology. The Internet has opened up doors and is mimicking the human mind. If you consider the evolution of technology, it has increased exponentially since it's beginnings. The entire digital age is a progression towards a technological singularity and this is cited in many expert's work from the field. Society had reached a point where it could not improve any further without the use of technology. The singularity is the point where computer systems and digital technology far surpass the capabilities of human beings. A singularity is hard to imagine now, but it shows itself in more and more ways. '
Consider technology now as a universal core of information, frameworks and other tools that are bundled and understood by a wide range of devices. This is simply a inherent force within our own technology that is driven to refine itself to become more and more efficient. The future of technology consists of screens anywhere with Internet access anywhere. Video anywhere and music anywhere. Full classes for download in tiny .PDF files. Entire databases of history, knowledge and data that are bundled together and stored for ever on hard drives. This clearly could change societies all around the world. Technology has been catching up with the existence of time and is now reaching a point where we will witness technology surpass our capabilities.
There is no question that technology is evolving into a universal form of communication, but will it control society. In it's current state, there must be a human directing a computer with programming languages or software because computers cannot think for themselves. The key areas effecting society will be automation. Computers will surely continue to evolve at even faster rates. When a computer is capable of holding all of the directions to complete a certain task, and then controls machinery, many tasks will be automated.
Smart phones are also changing society in many ways. In particular, the IPhone has opened up a world of information at the user's fingertips and on the move. Having applications displaying anything from the weather to astrological information a mobile device can be better then an encyclopedia. Technology is going to be the number one priority for society and does directly effect our capabilities. The best measure of control is if in the absence of technology, would we experience negative consequences. Without technology our daily lives would be much harder and some areas of society would complete shut down.
