A "Gay" could certainly not be a priest.

A Priest of any denomination must be in full command of his sexuality. After looking at some of the things priests have been accused of in the News, I'm sure you could find at least one reason why this is.

Defining homosexuality is somewhat hard and some believe that homosexuality is not a choice but something you are born into. However, if you are a practicing "homosexual" then you are disobeying ludicrous stacks of Christian rules and guidelines.

Let us create a Maxim that most would agree with; priests must not engage in any sexual act or indulge in any form of sexual contemplation. Okay, so what does this have to do with homosexuals?

Well, to answer, first ask yourself, how was the conclusion made that One was gay? A Gay is not gay unless involved in sexual acts with the same sex, or has frequent sexual thoughts and desires of the same sex. To be a homosexual would mean that you would fall short of the Maxim to become a priest.

There may be denominations where marriage, and therefore intercourse, is an acceptable part of Priesthood, however this is a different topic and not the norm.

We are talking about priests here, not pastors; and once again priests are not to engage in any form of sexual innuendo or acts, be it with a man or a woman. If a person were to have frequent sexual thoughts about anyone of any sex then he is certainly not of pure thought or emotion. This person is not of the caste to be teaching anyone about God.

Now, is this an attack on gays? The answer is obviously no; sexual orientation should not even be in question when one is trying to become a priest. In order for someone to become a priest he must have already been walking with God and living a life of celibacy (there is no Rumspringa here). How else can someone even be under consideration for priesthood? In order for a priest to do what he does he must almost psychologically castrate himself; there is no room for sexual relations, therefore, One could not be gay.

Sufficient reasoning has been given as to why someone with pre-existing homosexual tendencies should not be ordained. Now, let us touch base with the implications involved should there be gay priests. If the bible specifically states that homosexuals are immoral, how would a Gay feel about delivering this message? If he did not agree with this position on homosexuality, would he revise or skip over these parts? Further, this question must be asked, how would those in the congregation feel about a gay priest preaching these values to their children?

It may be time for change within this religion, and this may also be an argument about equal rights; however, allowing homosexuals to become priests would create more problems within and without the church. There must remain barriers for people who simply do not meet the requirements, as there are barriers for those whom do not meet the qualifiers for many professions.
