How to make a homemade Halloween candy bucket

Most of us remember as kids using a plastic bag for a Halloween Candy Collector. If children were fortunate enough to have a candy bucket, after one use they would beg to use bags to carry a bigger haul. After all, once the bucket was full you went home.

Children today worry too much about fitting in or looking cool. For you to give your child the best of both worlds make a Halloween candy bucket they will enjoy. Here are some ideas for a Halloween candy bucket:

Felt:

Felt is easy to work with. You will need to sew a felt bag together, but you do not need to have any sewing skills. The Halloween Candy bucket will be used at night so no one will notice any mistakes. Buy a four foot by one foot piece of felt. This will be the candy bag. When it is sewn you can have a bag that is almost two feet deep and one foot wide.

You will want to purchase a handle for your bag as well. You can make the handle from felt, ribbon, or string. Make sure the handle will hold up to your little ones tugging and pulling, or even just carrying.

The felt can be any color you choose. After it is sewn, you can decorate it by gluing felt pieces on it to make a picture, such as a pumpkin. For example: glue an orange piece of felt that is cut in a pumpkin shape to the bag and then glue black eyes and black scary mouth to the pumpkin. Don't forget the nose.

Bag:

Children should still use bags. They are inexpensive and easily available. Instead of a plain brown bag, the parent, child, or both should decorate it. Take markers and draw pictures. You can draw plain pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and black cats on your Halloween trick-or-treat bag.

Halloween stickers are also available and look great on a Halloween bag. Wal-mart, Kmart, Family Dollar, Big Lots and Dollar Tree have Halloween sticker sheets for sale. Halloween stickers are also available at craft stores. Buy several types of stickers for a colorful Halloween candy bucket.

Baskets:

Baskets are easy to carry and sturdy. If you have an extra basket lying around, decorate it to make a Halloween candy bucket. You can use orange and black yarn to wrap around the handle or even weave into the basket for decoration. You can even tie the yarn into a bow on the handle. You can use ribbon instead of yarn.

Stickers are a little harder to attach to baskets. You can use the ribbon to attach the stickers. The stickers will hold better to ribbon than an uneven basket.

Real Bucket:

If the bucket isn't clean on the inside, use a bag or some type of liner to line the bucket. Then, decorate the bucket with stickers or drawings. You can do anything with the bucket. Wrap the handle so that when you carry the bucket it will be comfortable. You don't want a blister on your hand from trick-or-treating.
