Why do scientists reject evidence of God

Questions like this one: "Why do scientists reject evidence of God?" are commonly asked on web sites today, particularly those sponsored by religiously oriented factions and in many cases those trying to wage a convincing argument in favor of intelligent design, creation science or what ever they are calling it this week.

In consideration of this quandary, one might reasonably ask, exactly what evidence of God is implicated? Ironically, while web sites deliver lots of verbiage around the issue and offer wordy arguments belaboring their beliefs, they never bother to define and disclose exactly what evidence they are inferring scientists are rejecting. An example would be a web site called [ sicentificevidenceoggod.com ] which offers a few paragraphs of frivolous banter and then wraps it all up with, "Conclusion: There is no evidence that a Creator was not needed to make evolution or natural processes or the laws of nature, etc." A reader of this article, anticipating at its outset that they will find in it a dissertation on the scientific evidence supporting the notion of God, instead finds themselves high, dry and pondering the absurd logical aberration, that a lack of evidence to prove that God does not exist, must therefore be considered as evidence that he does.

From a scientific perspective, evidence is not proof, it is simply information, data or experience to be taken into consideration in establishing reasonability with respect to instance of factual certainty. For instance, in 1905, Albert Einstein posited his theory of relativity without any evidence to support the notion, and based solely on his own processes of rational induction. Einstein, however, suggested that scientists evaluating his theory could find evidence supporting his hypothesis by observing the position of stars in close proximity to the Sun during an eclipse. If these stars appeared to change position during the eclipse, this would indicate the trajectory of light quanta or photons emanating from the star were being effected by the immense gravitational force of the Sun; proving unequivocally that photons are particles with mass, however minute. Einstein went so far in his thesis as to provide mathematical evidence suggesting exactly what degree of movement would be observed. In 1919 Astronomers obtained the evidence and it supported Einstein's theory and calculations on light quanta, but hardly proved the theory of relativity. In fact, Einstein was not right about everything he proposed.
