Writing percentages on Helium give the writer a good idea about how his/her articles are being rated overall. The writing percentage is important in several ways. One factor is that the percentage rating on the articles a writer has on the site will determine how many writing stars the member has. This can make a difference when writing articles for the Marketplace either for the Helium site itself or for outside publishers. More opportunities are open with more writing stars. Writing stars are also important indicators to the writer as to whether the writer should look through his/her portfolio in order to leapfrog those articles that have dropped in ratings.
How to increase writing percentage in Helium:
Proper Grammar/Spelling/Formatting
Spelling and grammar are extremely important when you are writing for Helium. Formatting is just as important because the article should be pleasing to the eye of the reader. If poor grammar, spelling or formatting are present in the article, it is likely to be rated down to the bottom of the pile by Helium raters. That means that the writing percentage will drop as well.
Interesting
Articles should be as interesting as possible. Some subjects are much harder to be creative enough to make them interesting. Almost every subject can be made interesting enough to keep the readers attention. If it is not interesting, raters might get bored reading the article and rate it down according to that fact. The more interesting the article is, the better chance the rating will stay high and the rating percentage will follow suit.
Improvement
Improving percentage scores in Helium also means improving article content. There is usually something that can be changed in every article to make it a better article than the original. Look closely at the article to see where improvement can be made. Seek help on the Helium Discussion Boards. That is what the boards are there for. There are many writers on Helium that are more than willing to help someone who wants to improve on his/her work. if there is something that needs to be changed in the article, it is time to leapfrog it.
Confidence
Knowing the subject being written about will give the writer more confidence when writing the article. Choose topics that are of special interest and write to those. There is nothing wrong with trying a different or new area to spread the wings a bit, but writing to a subject that the writer is knowledgeable in will help raise the writing percentage because raters will see the difference.
The writer's writing percentage is a private matter. It is only seen by the writer. It does hold weight when it comes to writing stars. Most writers on the Helium site enjoy earning their stars and the writing percentage is essential to earning more writing stars. Once a writer has decided to work on increasing his or her writing stars, his/her work generally improves as well. Leapfrogs are there for that very purpose.
