With the recession weighing down on our shoulders, its hard not to let it bring down the holidays too. But, Halloween is just too fun and too easy to let money get in the way! This year it is simple enough to have a knock-out costume without needing a bailout. There is no reason to worry about costumes just because you don't have enough money to purchase the complete outfit. This year, fun costumes are possible without breaking the bank, combining store bought accessories and items already in your wardrobe is a good compromise.
Celebrity icons are costumes that are recognizable and can be taken from your own closets! Lady GaGa has presented herself as a wild, unbeatable force this year. Mix a wig in with a wild dress and you can be her too. Her off the wall outfits can be made at home, or cheaply from an arts and crafts store. Art deco, crazy lace and wire can be fun to work with and fun to show off at a party. Model your costume after any one of her VMA ensembles from this year and you will be a hit!
Michael Jackson-an iconic pick in his recent passing. Honor the King of Pop by choosing a look from any one of his fashionable and memorable pieces. Rock it out in a thriller-esque red jacket and wet hair look. Dress all in black to channel his classic black and white 'Scream' video. Throw on a glittery top, or the single glove, or his more recent suit, umbrella and veil looks to pay homage to the pop-music great.
Madonna is always a classic. Some cones, you can always use funnels from the garage, and a long ponytail will strike an instant connection to Madge's early look. Platinum blonde hair, the beauty mark and lace underwear worn as an outfit will work, or take a cue from any of her iconic, ever-changing identities.
Some other ideas could be Barack and Michelle Obama. This political duo have been inspiring people everywhere, especially with their look, so why not get inspired on Halloween and dress up as the pair? A suit, and a stylish but professional dress are the start to imitating the two.
Some other ideas could be High School Musical characters, anything Disney, or even take from the upcoming flick, "Where the Wild Things Are" and get in touch with your childhood by going out in something a little more wild.
Even in times hard-pressed for cash, there is no shortage of creative ideas, and fresh fun for Halloween.
Remember to be safe and have fun!
