For myself, and I am sure thousands of other writers, the ultimate satisfaction is seeing your name in a byline somewhere, whether that be in a magazine, newspaper, or on-line. There is a certain thrill which comes with knowing your creative work is being seen by others, being read and appreciated, liked, or even disliked. Poets are no exception to this concept, although marketing, and have poetry published, can be a little tougher that other areas of writing. However, a great option for poet is to post their work on Internet sites where it can be viewed by readers and other poets as well, and can often receive feedback. There are numerous sites available to writers, many of which you will find here, as well as some alternate ideas for publicizing.
- Your Poetry Dot Com
A free, membership based website, Your Poetry Dot Com is a great place to begin posting your work. Here you will find thousands of poems from writers you like, ranging from emotional to funny, to religious and political. Readers can leave you comments about your work, as you can also do for others. To post your poetry you can sign up at www.your-poetry.com.
-Poetry Craze
Another membership based poetry website is www.poetrycraze.com. This website has several different categories of poetry including friendship, love, forgiveness, darker poetry and many others. You can post your poems which will be read by many, as well as take part in poetry contests. This website is a great posting place for budding poets!
-Once Written
At www.oncewritter.com authors can post poetry and do so much more. This site helps new writers learn skills in marketing and publishing, helps promote new writers, and provides a place where writers can learn to promote themselves and their work. The site has won awards and received high recognition for its devotion to writers, and is a wonderful place for poets, and all writers, to post and learn.
-Poem of Quotes:
Another great place to have your work posted is www.poemofquotes.com, This site features poetry in numerous categories and topics including, but not limited to, sad, love, inspirational, funny, and much more. It is membership based, as most are, and submitting your poetry is quick and easy. You retain all the rights to your work of course, and still get to share it with hundreds, if not thousands, of readers.
These are just a few of hundreds of great sites where writers can post their poetic works. There are other ways for poets to have their work seen including a personal website or blog, and social networking sites such as Facebook which has groups for poets and poetry readers. Poetry is a classic artform, and poets of all types should have their work seen, read, and enjoyed. Using these sites, and others like it, todays poets can now do just that.
