Has Facebook replaced the telephone ? No, I don't think so. Why? Because it's not personal enough. Somethings you don't mind sharing information on the wall to all who are a part of your Facebook circle. But there are times you may need to talk to someone in privacy. Although you could direct a message straight to your contact intended, you may not get an immediate response. Sometimes the intended persons may not check their Facebook messages for days. If it's something real important, you'll have to use the phone to call, or try and contact that person or persons through another means of contact. If you are not invited or confirmed to be a Facebook friend, than you are not in that circle. You don't have to be confirm to call on a phone especially if you have the phone number.

No, I don't think Facebook was never intended to take the place of the telephone. Although you can actually text on Facebook, but you may become distracted by everything else going on like; games, ads, inbox, and notifications, etc. My favorite distraction is, "Farmville," but that's another debate . Also you have to wait until that particular person, or persons come on the site, which may not be for several days to come. Which means you can't talk to the person you intend to directly. Again you would have to use a phone.

I know that everyone is not a member of Facebook. In Fact, There are some people who wouldn't discuss their business over the net anyway, also it's been a lot of talk about what you may say on Facebook, may come back to haunt you later. You never know who's reading your messages, and interpreting it in a way not intended. I think That Facebook is a means of entertainment, and most of all networking. Sometime people use Facebook to contact friends they haven't seen since high school, or relatives they lost contact for one reason, or another. Usually when that misplaced person is found, you still try to contact that person by phone, because being you haven't spoke to that person in awhile, you would love to hear their voice on the phone. You can't do that on Facebook, no...I don't think you could hear their voice. Anyway, I don't think Facebook will be replacing telephone during my lifetime. If so, I didn't see it coming, but anything could be possible.
