They say whats cool
whats cool to wear
whats cool to say
whats cool to buy
they run our lives
the people, the people that say whats cool
they say to a girl one day
that her brown hair should be blond
so she can be cool
without thinking, she dyes her hair
they say to a lovely girl
with her own sense of whats cool
that skinny jeans are better than her cargo's
all of a sudden thats the only pants she wears
They say whats cool
they demand our attention
and that we do what they say
so when they say whats cool
-what to wear or buy or say-
we do it
without another thought
well its getting kinda old to me
thought one girl, after being sneered at
because her pants were not 'cool'
so she decided to stop, to quit
she went back to her lovely silky brown hair color
and wore her cargo's all the time
the sneering soon stopped
because she began to make others realize
that something being 'cool' isn't enough to change
who they really are
so as one, as all united
with different opinions of what was 'cool'
and what was not
they sent out a clear and strong message
to not worry about what others say
all that matters is what you believe
and that everyone is different
which makes them who they are
they sent out the message, those strong people, all united
that quite clearly said
let me be myself

I'm hard to know...I hide from the mirror,
from myself.
Cowering high in this lofty tower, afraid to be myself.

Let me be myself

Can I really ask you to let me be me? Do I judge you when you are you? I think not, so why can't I ask for you to

"Step Aside"
Dare I step aside or merely walk the brazen path?
I know not, either way, what tide it brings.
Perhaps I've not
