Alphabet craft projects for kids

One of the best ways to get kids to learn their alphabets is to make that learning fun for the kids and one way to do that is to incorporate crafts into the learning process. The use of crafts can aid in their mastery of the alphabet and each individual letter.

Print and Color

One of the simplest crafts for kids to do is coloring or decorating printed letters. Finding letters to print out is easy and then they can be printed out large enough for kids to color or decorate. If you want a craft that is more creative than just coloring then you can do something as simple as getting glue and something to glue onto the letters. Stuff that works well for decorating the letters include beans from the pantry, macaroni noodles, beads or anything else that is easy for kids to clue.

Stick Letters

A great way to learn the alphabet and how to spell their name is to have kids get sticks and then build the letters from those sticks. To do this craft you will need the sticks, string to tie the sticks together and ribbon to decorate the letters with. Once the kids have a good selection of sticks have them build the letters to spell out their names or other meaningful words and then decorate them.

Magazine Letter Hunt

A great way to help kids learn their letters and what they look at is to have them search through a kid friendly magazine to find each letter. The supplies you need to do this craft is one magazine per kid, a pair of scissors, large piece of paper for each child, a pen and glue. On the piece of paper write down the Alphabet with a large space between each letter and then have the kids search through the magazine to find each letter and glue it on the sheet of paper. When they are done they will have an alphabet chart to study.

Alphabet Treasure Hunt

For kids that are just starting to associate the letters of the alphabet with different words this game will work really well. All you need for this craft is a piece of paper and a pencil, and drawing supplies for after the treasure hunt if you want. Begin by making a list of all the letters in the alphabet and then take your kids on a treasure hunt through the house to find something that starts with each letter until your list is complete. Once they have something for at least most of the letters have them color and write the letter and draw a picture of the object they found so that they will retain the information better.
