Alphabets can be fun. Alphabets when clubbed up with shapes, colors and material texture can be very stimulating to a little child's mind. It is not necessary that it be part of a class routine, but alphabet crafts may be taught to a kid to tide over boredom, to teach a child the alphabet or perhaps to even understand the mind of a kid. The trick to easy alphabet craft time, is not to stress on higher levels such as words, but to let the child enjoy the basics, "Alphabets".

Listed below are a few Alphabet craft projects for kids. As far as possible, let the craft be three dimensional and not just restricted to paper and pencil or outlines on paper to be colored in.

Project # 1: Alphabet Cut-Outs

The items you will require are:

-Cardboard or chart paper for the alphabets

-Shapes of alphabets cut out by an adult

-Paints, color pencils, crayons or markers

-Paint brush or small balls of cotton wool in case paints are being used

-Safety scissors in case children are cutting out the alphabets

= An adult may cut out the alphabets for the little children, or children may do so with the help of the adult. Each child can then color the alphabet using either of the coloring media. Paints can be an exciting method to color as the child may use a paint brush, a sponge, a ball of cotton wool or even fingers to paint.

After the alphabets are ready, they may be stuck onto a big chart either randomly or in the form of words such as the child's name or a familiar word that the child has learned. The alphabets may also be exhibited individually on a notice board in the classroom or at home on the fridge door.

Project # 2: Alphabet Pockets

This craft project is a very effective method for teaching toddlers the alphabets. Most crafts have to be supervised by an adult, ie. Parent or teacher to be more specific. In this case, the adult is to prepare the chart, while the child follows up with the alphabets.

The items you will require are:

-Chart Paper for the main chart

- Chart paper for the alphabet cards

- Markers and Colors (pencils, paints or crayons)

-Additional paper to make little pockets

-Glue

= Cut chart into 6 inches wide strips. Use many strips that will eventually house the 26 alphabets along with 26 relating pictures. Cut out additional chart paper to make pockets of approximate size 7 cm x 5 cm. Fold three edges of the pocket just enough to glue it in position on the chart. It should look like a library book pocket for a library card to be inserted in.

Over each pocket,
