Poetry: Heartbreaker

Alzheimer's Dark Cloud of Dying

Jesus and my mom and anybody

who's called to be nobody,

hidden and lost to all

that's comforting or protecting

or the least bit disguising.

Shut down in that dark cloud of dying,

X-rays disclosing your bones.

Naked

Only you now. Without a group

without a friend

without even foes.

No well connected relatives

no parents to help you

no spouse to cling to

no kids to care.

Shut down in that dark cloud of dying,

X-rays disclosing your bones.

Alone

No gold medals. No rank,

Not a shred of status,

beauty or achievement.

No excuses.

No grievance committee

not a single pretense,

not even comic relief.

Shut down in that dark cloud of dying,

X-rays disclosing your bones.

Helpless

De-memoried, de-ancestored,

can't even remember your name.

No more What if?

Fresh out of future,

but can't even cash in your chips.

Shut down in that dark cloud of dying,

X-rays disclosing your bones.

Finished

Finally, that truth stripping,

purifying and transforming

through its pain.

Burnished

At last! Reflection only,

showing, even glowing

with I AM.
