Halloween is fun for everyone; however, for plus size people searching for a costume, the task can literally make you scream. Specialty boutiques are expensive and regular costume shops and thrift stores don't offer a wide selection that fit their larger customers. Fear not, with some ingenuity and creativity, plus sized party goers and trick or treaters can wow their friends with homemade costumes.
Here are some recommendations that are winners for this Halloween.
Greek God/Goddess
In Greece, Gods are considered larger than life. With some simple add-ons, a simple white sheet, tunic or dress can be transformed into a costume. For a Greek God or Goddess, think draping cloth and a cord for a belt. Laurels or flowers make a wonderful accent and headpiece.
Cleopatra
For the plus sized woman, she can walk like an Egyptian. With a white dress, a black wig and a belt, a plus sized girls can be transformed into the Queen of the Nile.
Opera Star/Character
For the gents, a nice jacket with tails and white shirt is enough to make them as handsome as Pavarotti. Adding a mask makes you the Phantom of the Opera. For the ladies, an evening gown with the right babbles will make you into an elegant lady. Opera glasses and long gloves are great accessories and can be obtained at a costume shop or made.
Gypsy
Veils. Veils. Veils. Veils. Becoming a gypsy is easier than you can imagine. A flowy skirt, corset and scarves are all you need to make a colorful a gypsy costume. Hoop earrings and bangles are nice accents for the look. For the guys, white shirt, black pants and boats are the right ensemble for a gypsy man. Covering one's head with a scarf or bandana and then adding a thick belt and hoop earrings will compliment the look.
Doctor/Nurse
With colorful scrubs or a lab coat our plus sized folks can either be a nurse or a surgeon. Adding a lab coat, name badge or stethoscope just adds to authenticity of the look.
Iron Chef
Unlike Mario Batali, we all can't be iron chefs, but with the right dudes we can look like one. A white coat and chefs hat is basically all you need.
It's not to say some of the tried and true options are off limits. Vampires, Cowboys, Cowgirls, and Superheroes are all simple and easy options that require caps and hats to legitimize the look.
