Teenagers will get into trouble sometimes, but there are some teens that take it a step farther. If your teenager has been known to get into trouble at school, there is a high chance that he/she will get expelled from school. If this has happened in your family, you may need to find ways to deal with your teenager's expulsion from school.
Here are some ways you can deal with your teenager's expulsion from school:
Discipline
You can't allow your teenager to simply be expelled from school without taking some type of disciplinary action. You must enforce some type of discipline for your teenagers own good. Being expelled from school can destroy your teenagers future. At the very least, you should not allow him/her to do whatever he/she wants to do with the free time that he/she now has on his/her hands.
Find Alternative Schools
Many school districts have alternative schools for teenagers who find themselves expelled from school. This may not be what you had in mind for your child, but it does allow him/her to still get an education which makes it easier for him/her to move through life. Call the board of education in your area to find out if there is an alternative school available.
Private School
Another option for your child may be a private school setting. These are more strict than public schools, so it may be difficult to get your teenager into them. However, it is worth looking into. Your child's education will make all the difference in the world when it comes to being an adult.
GED
If you cannot find a school that will work with you because your teen has an expulsion on his/her record, he/she can be placed in GED classes to earn his/her diploma. This should be a requirement that you set down for your teen, not an option. It can be difficult to earn the GED but not impossible. Although a GED can still hold back your teenager from certain things, it will also allow him/her to move forward with education goals in the future.
Get a Job
If you find an expulsion letter in your mailbox for your teenager, it is time for him/her to find a job. You teen shouldn't be sitting around the house watching television while you are out working. Require that your teen find and hold a job. This will keep your teen busy so that no more trouble comes their way. It will also give him/her a sense of pride when he/she is earning his/her own money.
Dealing with a teen who is expelled from school takes determination. You have to set down rules and stick by them. If you cannot get any results from your teenager, it might be worth looking into ways to wake your child up. Life isn't easy and it won't get any easier. Teenagers need to learn that lesson before they are out on their own.
