The benefits of organic foods can not be overstated. Soil that has been depleted through the years and crops that are doused liberally with pesticides, artificial growth hormones, and processed compost to ensure larger produce size are truly diminishing flavor and nutrition. If you hold an organic grapefruit next to a processed orange they are almost the same size. A grapefruit is supposed to be larger than an orange in the natural world.
A giant orange appeals visually to the consumer who is purchasing the orange, but the flavor is lacking. I have tasted both organic and manufactured oranges and there is a disparity in size and flavor. The chemicals added to induce growth also seep into the vegetables and fruits. The organic orange is small. The organic orange has zing and juices that drip to your elbow. It is the way that the fruit was meant to grow. Oranges are small. Oranges are sweet. Improvement on these fundamentals is next to impossible.
As the mother of three children I am worried that vitamins are missing from the non organic food groups. The cows that produce milk for our kids are injected with r-BST to promote more milk production. Increased milk production is more money for dairy farmers. The hormone is passed from cow, milk, to child. The r-BST impacts children, but at this time the evidence is anecdotal to scientists, but crystal clear to moms. I would not inject my five year old with chemical and when she drinks processed milk she is consuming the same injections that the cows have received. It is essential in the early growth years for a child to be eating less processed foods, and certainly less chemicals.
Milk is now being processed without r-BST although they state that the chemicals had no impact. Why modify the rapid production of milk if there is not a negative correlation between r-BST and human growth. It is with hesitancy that my own conclusion is that the milk is far worse then anyone suspected for years and eventually the truth will surface.
As the average consumer asks more questions about the benefits of organic foods the answers will convince them. Organic foods have more nutrients. Organic foods taste better. Our family has planted a small garden in the back yard and we don't add pesticides or growth additives to our soil. My children will eat the tomatoes right off the vine and I don't have to worry. Natural foods are flavorful and healthy. Organic foods are worth the money. Taste an organic orange and then a giant "additive"
