The issue isn't where the best price is, it is getting the best price!
Searching online via froogle, you can find cameras and lens on sale for hundreds of dollars less than anywhere else... but these places are usually trying to rip you off and engage in bait and switch or vicious upselling (i.e. "Hi, you recently ordered a camera for cheap, we won't really send it unless you buy this expensive battery that should have come with the camera in the first place!") or, they're selling gray market goods without warranties.
That's bad, but you can still work towards getting their price without the risk!
First, read your credit card bonus features: Do you see a "price protection" plan in there? Does it apply to "non-auction internet sites"? If yes, then you're in business.
Two, find your camera cheap and from a place that *looks* like it's an actual offer.
Three, find your camera where you want to buy it at a moderately priced place you trust with that credit card.
Four, jump through the hoops to get your credit card company to issue a check to refund the difference. Exact requirements vary, but do not be afraid to call and ask! It's your insurance, after all!
This saved me nearly $450 on my last camera purchase.
