Movie reviews: Pride and Glory

If Pride and Glory taught me anything, it would be karma, and how everything that goes around comes back around, every time. It also showed why some people will take advantage of other people/authorities who trust them, and use it to do very bad things. Combining both life lessons, Pride and Glory provides an example of why you cannot take advantage of other peoples trust, because you will get your fair share in the end.

Ray is a very honest man, and a hard worker. Jimmy has a more laid back attitude, and a tendency to get caught up in doing the wrong things. Karma relates to both Jimmy and Ray, as both ultimately receive fair payment. Ray is very thorough in his police work and investigations, making sure that he obtains every detail needed to catch the bad guys. Jimmy, on the other hand, was not as committed to his job, leading us to suspect that he was corrupted. Ray went through a lot, just to solve a single case. Different problems were constantly popping up, and he had to solve each one of them. In the end, Ray received high recognition for the work that he did to stop his own corrupt police force. Jimmy was the corrupt cop that started the whole chain, and he stole/killed just for money. This is another case of incentives driving people to do evil things, which I have previously discussed in my Igor film analysis. After all of the terrible things that Jimmy did, karma came back to bite him. He did not receive very good punishment. He may have received the worst punishment for committing evil acts.

Trust was also another key factor in Pride and Glory. If Ray and Jimmy were not close family, they wouldn't have a trust factor, and the movie could not have existed. Jimmy used his connection to the police force to commit evil acts. He put his hand in the cookie jar uninvited, thinking he would get away with his crimes. Jimmy betrayed the trust of his family, and the trust of his legit police officers. There is no excuse for betraying anyone's trust.

Karma and trust can sometimes be directly related. In the case of Pride and Glory, they are. When you take advantage of trust to do bad things, you will receive your punishment. Jimmy learned this lesson the hard way, at a dear, dear cost.
