We all have a role model to help guide us in the right direction. Whether it is an athlete, family member, or an iconic figure, we admire people who have achieved what we are after. This is not the case in Role Models, as Augie and Ronnie are kids who are forced to have Role Models who they don't admire. It is with time and experience that Wheeler and Danny, the adult role models, establish themselves as positive and reliable mentors.

Wheeler and Danny must perform 150 hours of community service in order to avoid a harsh jail sentence. They do not become role models by choice, which is very important information that defines the main concept of the film. First, they are upset about becoming role models, and they strongly dislike it. Over a short period of time, they bond with their kids (Augie and Ronnie). Conflict occurs when each role model does something to upset their kid. They are criticized by the administrator of the program, they parents of the children, and worst of all: the children themselves. Wheeler and Danny eventually redeem themselves, and the movie ends on a happy note. This gives the viewpoint from the role model, and the challenges associated with it. Once you become a role model, you are held accountable to do the right thing; each and every time. If you make just a single mistake, people will instantly forget all of the good things you did in the past, and focus only on your negative action. It is a very difficult job, and performing under heavy pressure is a must. It is also one of the most rewarding things you can do.

Ronnie and Augie are by no means 'average'. They both have very unique needs and personalities. Ronnie was left by his father, and Augie has parents who do not support him. They are both in desperate need for a role model; they just don't know it. Ronnie tries to scare Wheeler away, and Augie is very introverted towards Danny. In the long run, Augie and Ronnie find the perfect role models in Wheeler and Danny.

Who doesn't need a role model? Well, I don't suppose you could have one if you aren't alive. If you are a living being, then you need someone to look up to. Someone who has already achieved your goals. Who are your role models?
