Scoring better on the LSAT

The LSAT is the admissions test you take for entry into Law School. Your LSAT score can make a huge difference in your application and be the difference between getting into a top 5 law school and a tier 3 school. The LSAT score is not the only thing law school admissions officers look at when deciding whether or not to accept you; they also look at your undergraduate GPA, letters of recommendation and extra-curricular activities. Scoring better in the LSAT is in your hands, you just need to be focused and study consistently.

LSAT scores are important if you want to get into a highly competitive law school and can be helpful in getting scholarships and financial aid. The first thing you need to do is take a diagnostic test to see just where you stand in the LSAT and what your weak areas are. The LSAT consists of Logic Games, Logic Reasoning and Reading Comprehension.

Depending on your strengths and weaknesses, you may want to take a test prep class, like Testmasters or Powerscore. I personally took Testmasters and they helped to increase my score tremendously. Test prep classes are good because they make you study, you are not going to pay $350-$1250 and not show up! It is also helpful to have a teacher who can explain to you in person how certain concepts work. For more information on Testmasters you can go here.

The LSAT is a lot like the GRE, in that you need to have a knowledge of vocabulary that is both vast and in depth, you need to have an understanding of the meanings of the words as well knowing how to use them in a sentence. You can improve your vocab by reading the dictionary, science journals, geographical journals and newspapers. Read articles you wouldn't normally find interesting so that you can increase your brain power and concentration when reading things you find boring. Remember, the LSAT reading comprehension passages are likely to be long in depth, and you will need to be able to read and understand them quickly.

A lot of people find that the Logic Games are their weakest area when taking practice LSAT tests. It is helpful to get the Logic Games Bible, if this is the case for you, it will help you tremendously. To see how to use the Logic Games Bible to help you do better in that section of the LSAT, go here.
