Poetry: Hurting

by Justin Germino

Hurt Lives

Hurt lives
inside the darkest places
where lives are torn
hearts are tattered
like dirty worn jeans

Hurt lives
lurking like a scavenger
feeding on our carrion fears
drinking our savage worries
until we are dry

Hurt lives
in those who fear
suffering in silence
praying for silence
that may never come

Hurt dies
strength of spirit
bury the undead that haunts
find peace at last
in your heart
