Kids crafts: Play dough recipes

There are few things in a child's life that they remember as well as play-dough. Hours upon hours of creating and recreating wonderful sculptures. Buying brand name molding dough is easy enough but it runs short of the enjoyment of making your own.

Benefits of making homemade Play Dough:

Inexpensive: no mattter which recipe you use, and there are many, it is very cheap to make.

Family time: Making play-dough at home is like a magnet to your kitchen. Children and not so young children will be drawn to the fun of the experience and the results.

No shopping: The majority of items needed to make the dough are probably already in your home. If not, a quick trip to the store for any needed ingredient will be worth the time investment. The ingredients last for a long time and go a long way.

Any color, any time: Rainy days, snow days, illness, boredom relief is on the way. Create a variety of colors or a big bunch of one color at a time.

No more dried up dough due to the lost caps or forgotten replacement of the caps on the cans. Homemade play dough can be stored in Tupperware, and plastic bags and will stay fresh for quite sometime, especially if you refrigerate it.

These days saving money is more important than ever. Homemade products, like play-dough are not only much less expensive than store bought brands, but the family time is invaluable. It is also a great activity for a birthday party. Each child can have a bag of their own to take home with them and enjoy. Providing play-dough to school classrooms that are low on supplies will also be greatly appreciated. These days many teachers, who used to love creating play-dough in class, simply lack the time. Create the dough for the fun of it and remember you will be creating memories as well.

Kick up the fun with Kool-Aid play-dough:

1 Cup of Flour

1 Packaged unsweetened Kool-Aid (Choice of Colors)

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

1 cup of water

2 tablespoons cream of tartar

cup of salt

Here You Go!

Mix all the ingredients except for water and oil in a medium to large pot (depending on how much you choose to make, some like to double the recipe)

Now add in the water and oil

Over medium heat stir until the ingredients become the correct consistency and let cool.

Knead the dough, add flour if it is too sticky, and you are done!

Store the dough in Tupperware or plastic bags. Refrigerate to add to longevity.

Enjoy!
