Dealing with today's out of control kids and "at-risk" youth, the old clich, "It takes a village to raise a child", seems to be an understatement. Society, as a whole, should be responsible for all kids even those deemed out of control. The parents/guardian, school systems, communities, and justice system all share a percent of the responsibility when dealing with the issues and problems of the younger generations.
Ideally, parenting should start at home with good morals and values being instilled in children. A child should be brought up in a loving and nurturing environment first and foremost, this is what we think should happen. Parents should teach and promote qualities like honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, and respect to build good character. Helping to uplift and build high self-esteem should also be an important part of parenting. We all may agree that there should be structure and disciple with good communication and support. Realistically and unfortunately, this is not the case with some of the "at-risk" youths in urban communities. Many of them become out of control kids due to their environment, upbringing, status, and/or other factors that lead them to destructive behavior and juvenile delinquency.
The solution to dealing with these youngsters is simple but the implementation may be complex. When a juvenile does not receive the love, nurturing, and proper upbringing to become a productive person, ultimately, it becomes an issue that society must face sooner or later. Somehow we as a whole will be impacted by the delinquency of the youth if we do not reach out to try to help them or to change the mindset of a person and their way of thinking that leads to the delinquent behavior. In order to break the cycle of delinquency we must be willing to help those in need and that includes those who we would much rather not deal with.
