10 Rules to live by

by Christine Masssie

What makes life so interesting is that in each moment we get to make a new decision. Each day, each moment, each breath can be a new beginning. All things are possible. Everything fits together in an infinite mosaic and all the possibilities are revealed in an ever shifting kaleidoscope of roads taken and choices not made. Some of the things I have learned along the way are worth passing on; try them on and see if they fit:

1. Always choose to be kind, especially to rude waiters, thoughtless drivers, and sour faced postal clerks. Love has a way of working small and big miracles, and that is what kindness truly is.

2. Give a penny when you can, and take a penny when you need one. Learning to graciously accept help is as important as giving it. Allow another the beautiful opportunity of being able to give to you.

3. Forgive and Forget. It's hard. If you can't, then don't fool yourself into thinking that just forgiving is enough. It is more your own heart that suffers for it. Keep trying.

4. Time is the most valuable resource you will ever have. Partition it out even more carefully than your money. Spend it as much as you can doing things that you love with people that you love. You will not regret it.

5. Make choices, take chances. Things change and the more you participate in creating the change, the more satisfaction you will feel. Some choices will be bad, some will be wonderful, but in the end, it's the choices you make that build your soul.

6. Take care of your teeth, and your knees, and your liver. You live in a body. As of this time in scientific history, it's the only one you are going to be issued. The better you treat it in your youth, the happier you will be in your age.

7. Listen to everyone. Try to find meaning in each point of view. The harder you look, the more valuable the lesson. Sometimes the lesson is how to avoid foolishness and waste.

8. Seek God. If you look, you will find him. If someone else finds him in a different place; let them be.

9. You do not have a legacy. No building, no nation, no person will truly know who you were when you are gone. Live that you are loved truly by a few and not falsely by many.

10. And most importantly, be careful to never, never , never hit reply all when you are gossiping about the boss!

Who could presume to know the rules to live by? Each day is a lesson and each lesson is worth sharing. Let love and kindness rule the days of your life and you will know satisfaction, that is all I am really sure of.
