When one thinks of grabbing something for a quick energy boost many think of coffee or an energy drink first. These options are usually unhealthy and unnecessary. There are plenty of foods that are good for us and at the same time provide us with quick boosts of energy without harming our health.

In order to obtain energy we must feed our bodies with the necessary vitamins and minerals it needs every day. Unfortunately when we are busy running around, feeding our bodies is the last thing on our minds, hence the energy loss. The good news is that there are a lot of quick energy boosting foods available for those who have little time to prepare full meals and don't want to always rely on coffee or other caffeine rich drinks.

1 - Bananas are a good option as they contain lots of vitamin B which is required for good levels of energy. When you're feeling peckish and your energy levels are lacking, give them a boost by indulging in a big banana.

2 - A glass of milk will give you more energy because it is filled with calcium, protein and other vitamins that will wake up your body. Soy milk is a good alternative as it contains more B vitamins for energy production.

3 - Eggs are packed with protein. Protein is not only required for our muscles but our energy levels too. If you're feeling low on energy, try snacking on a hard boiled egg throughout the day or eat scrambled eggs for breakfast or lunch. You can cook them the night before and leave them in the fridge if you're short on time.

4 - Beans are another ideal option for an energy boost. Beans are rich in protein and B vitamins. They can be eaten cooked or out of a can, and taste great on their own or in salads, soups or casseroles. When you need a quick energy boost enjoy a small can of baked or kidney beans.

5 - Almonds and other nuts are excellent foods to keep on hand everywhere you go. Energy slumps usually happen when you deprive your body of food and in between meals. Keep a bag of almonds or other nuts in your handbag, car or desk drawer to snack on when you need a quick energy boost.

There are many other types of food that can be used as quick energy snacks. Think yoghurt, fruit and crunchy vegetables. Anything that will speed up your metabolism and get you through those energy slumps. If you want an energy drink, swap coffee for green tea. It's much better for you and can take you off the caffeine addiction for energy boosts.
