Why writers write

Sitting here looking at the computer screen I wonder what to write. I have just read a writing exercise that says to list the reasons that I write. The exercise also had an example from someone I suppose is a pretty famous writer or at least a good one. I care so much about this that I won't even go to the next room to find out the name of the book or the person who wrote for the exercise. I want to write. Like the person who did the exercise, I can think of a million reasons as to why I write but the only reasons that interest me are the ones that interest me right now. Creative nonfiction. Lets give it a try.

I write because I love to write and writing has always been a dream of mine. I write because I am unemployed and don't want to go back to work. I write because writing is a form of expression that fits my mind, my temperament and my personality. Writing doesn't criticise me unless I allow it too. I write because writing is my friend and it allows me to give voice, substance and meaning to the myriad of worlds I hold within me. I write because I like to use words like myriad. I write because it gives me peace of mind and doesn't leave my mind in pieces, at least not most of the time. I write because I want to be a writer, I am a writer and I will not stop until I become a success, whatever that means to me. I write because writing is the only way I can talk gibberish and still make sense. I write because I think I am funny and I am one of my best authors. I write because I plan to do book signing's and have fans when I strike it big. I know that sounds selfish, flashy, wrong in some way but I don't care. I write for you all and I write only for me. I write because I want to be the best writer I can be. I write because "writers write". I write because The Craft can be learned or self taught, sure it takes work but the work it takes is on my terms and no one else's. I write because writing makes me feel like me, makes me think like me. I write because writing leaves no excuses. I'm not exactly sure what that is all about but I have a clue, after all, it came form me. I write because I read and I think, "I could have written that, perhaps better". I write because I want to experience the story that hasn't been told yet. I write because I'm good at it and one day I will be great at it. Don't wait and see this is only for me. I write because writing loves me and I have always been a dream of writing.
