Created on: October 12, 2009

Decorating for Halloween is sometimes like preparing for a carnival or a festival. The only difference is that it is in your own front yard. Decorating your home for any reason takes a fair amount of planning and Halloween is no exception. You want to make a statement when the trick o' treaters come knocking on your door . Your door decor could be funny, scary, scary funny, loud or understated.

One of the simpler things you can do with your door is to cover it with some sort of wrapping. While there are many store bought door decorations available, you can also come up with your own creative ideas. Try covering your door with newspaper, or if you have comic strips saved up, use that instead and finish off with ribbons, twigs and other interesting objects.

Another door covering technique for Halloween is to use either black or orange garbage bags. Simply cut one side and the bottom of the bag so it lays flat . Use as many as needed to cover your door; tape on then decorate with cobwebs and other Halloween decorations.

You should never underestimate the power of lights for Halloween and your door adorned with creepy lights will make for a truly ghoulish Halloween focus. Lights come in all shapes and types like skeleton, ghosts, pumpkins, and the works. You can choose black, white purple and orange lights for the right effect. When your door is decorated with lights it is like a huge welcome sign that delights and amazes Halloween revellers of all ages.

Black wreaths, orange wreaths, corn wreaths are all great for decorating your door on Halloween. Buy one or make your own. All you will need is a wreath base which you can cover with black fabric, dried corn husk or dried flowers and twigs. Embellish with Halloween type objects like skulls, spiders and skeletons. and lights.

If you want to know what to do with those Halloween masks you collected over the years, decorating your door with them is the answer. Stuff masks with paper for a three dimensional look and arrange on your door. Accessorize with orange and black streamers and Halloween lights.

From wreaths to scary masks decorating your door for Halloween is all part of the Halloween celebrationand is an exciting and rewarding experience. Get the kids involved with the decorating activity and let their imagination run wild. You will be pleased with all the compliments you receive about your door. Just try not to scare the little ones too much, your decorations can be scary but should also be inviting.
