A frail woman in simple dress was walking through the gutters of Calcutta (called today Kolkata) in search of love! She was looking into the faces of everyone she met in which she could see the hunger for love. Wherever she went she was knocking at the human hearts reminding the world that the whole humanity is hungry and dry without the flow of love!
Yes, humanity is craving for love today. Mother Teresa could see stomach of humanity is full of food; its brain is full of knowledge; but its heart is empty without real love. She said, There is terrible hunger for love. We all experience that lack of love in our own lives- the pain, the loneliness. We must have the courage to recognize it. These poor you may have right in your family. Find them. Love them. She admonished the world, Keep the joy of loving the poor and share this joy with all you meet. Remember works of love are works of Peace. God bless you
A Star of Macedonia
Twenty four centuries back in history, there was a star born in Macedonia. Alexander the Great started his historical journey to conquer the whole world. There was another journey from Macedonia when Agnes Gonxha, later called Mother Teresa, started her journey of love from Skopje, Macedonia, on August 27, 1910.
In search of love through missionary work, she left her home at the age of eighteen and joined the Congregation of Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community, and was sent to India in August 1931. The teaching life at St Mary's High School in Calcutta was further creating
a vacuum in Teresa's ambitious heart.
Going Down the Gutters
Teresa's heart was restless, constantly asking her, Is this your vocation? The voice to serve the poorest of the poor was heard in her inner conscience often and it was growing louder and louder. The suffering and poverty she witnessed outside her convent walls made such a deep impression on her that in 1948 she got permission from her superiors to devote herself to serve the poor in the slums of Calcutta.
Amidst the Poorest
Mother Teresa started a congregation called Sisters of Charity dedicated to the service of the poor. She lived among the poor. She dared to descend down into fearful gutters to pick out the living humans thrown therein, neglected by their own people. She washed and bandaged the fearful wounds of the lepers and other wounded. She embraced the downtrodden in the streets and inspired hope in them. She educated the neglected children roaming every where and filled their minds with hope and
