The fact that David Letterman chose to admit to having affairs due to an alleged plot against him only underscores how self-involved he is. I pity any woman who would choose to get involved with such a character, but at the same time believe that if emotional pain and deprivation is what they are seeking, they would certainly get it from a vain and condescending man who calls himself a comedian.
Who is laughing now? Since Sarah Palin's book is doing fabulously in sales prior to its publication, I'll be there is some satisfaction in the conclusion of the Biblical expression "Whatever we are in private, the Lord discloses in public", and I might add usually by our own doing or undoing, whatever is the case. I do not consider Palin to be vindictive, but very pragmatic. She was treated very unfairly by the press, and in fact, Senator McCain.
I have never appreciated sixth grade male humor and certainly did take offense at Letterman's comments about Palin's daughter recently, our little girls have no one who seems to be protecting them these days. All these "jokes" and acceptance of pornography have led to a society that hates adult women who think and speak, and equally hate little girls who deserve to have their innocence protected.
It seems that Letterman could have avoided this mess by simply behaving himself, but I guess I expect too much sometimes. I am a loyal partner, and I am always surprised to learn when others, are not. I cannot imagine that lying and cheating on one's significant other could be that much of a thrill, let alone your marriage partner. One of the Letterman attorneys stated that since Letterman wasn't married at the time, his philandering and power-brokering with female employees is just fine. I doubt if his currrent wife agrees with this assessment.
I will not miss Letterman, I never thought he was funny, and so whatever happens to his career is fine with me...Just one more guy who thought he didn't have to play by the rules of life. I feel bad for his son, who probably thought the world of his dad, so hopefully Letterman has a dog that stills looks up to him.
In addition to my speculations as a pop-psychologist of no repute, I can see how Letterman views that he is the victim, not the women that he has been lying to, and using to prop up his ego, while he pretends to actually care about their well-being and professional advancement. I guess being an adult male and taking responsibility for one's actions as opposed to getting caught and then confessing in the role of a victim doesn't jive with current celebrity behavior models. Oh well.
