When you choose to perm your hair, you must first realize a chemical is used to process your hair into the desired style. Any hair style needs to be maintained with trimming the ends regularly. Usually a perm last between four to six weeks. This of course all depends on how quickly your hair grows.
Weaning yourself off a perm would be a good start. Delaying the times between perms over a 3 month time period may keep your hair at it's optimum health. My hair grows very quickly so I went from six weeks to two months without a perm. Every time you go longer without perming your hair. Your hair has grown an inch or two out of the perm. Yes, those in between stages can be traumatic.
The very first thing you should do is find a natural style that can be easily maintained without chemicals. Most of the time a chignon or hair pulled away from the face will get you through the growing out stages of your perm. However, if you have short hair, perhaps hair that is pulled away from the face. Don't forget to continue with your conditioning regimen. Hair that is growing out of a perm is often times very dry. Some leave in conditioners work very well to retain the moisture, the hair has lost.
Do you like hair accessories? If so, invest in some headbands and scarves. Hair maintenance is still the key factor. Don't neglect your hair, just because it seems you are having more bad hair days, than good ones. You won't have to resort to wearing baseball caps or wigs, if you continue to maintain your hair with or without a perm.
A natural style awaits you, without the added cost of a perm. Going natural is a much more cost effective way to manage your budget during these budget friendly times. A new hairstyle can help update your older outfits and give you a youthful look. A good season to go natural is usually in the fall months. The weather is cooler and you may don those scarfs and winter hats if you wish.
Many women choose to wear super straight or relaxed styles. You may obtain this result by wrapping your hair each night with a silk scarf to smooth frizzy hair. Humectants and pomades also work well to tame frizzy hair. A la "natural" is always in style.
