The Gospel is wonderful news to all who choose to believe it. Of course, for the skeptics and those who have chosen not to believe; they carry no good news at all. The news of the gospels is totally faith based and only those who have faith receive the good news it carries.
Mathew 18:12 is overflowing with wonderful news. If a shepherd has one hundred sheep, and one wanders away and is lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others and go out into the hills to search for the lost one? And if he finds it, he will surely rejoice over it more that over the ninety-nine that didn't wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father's will that even one of these little ones should perish.
The New Testament tells us over and over that God wants us ALL to receive His blessing of eternal life but it is also a choice that we have to make. If we choose not to believe then the Gospel tells us of the horror that non-believers will ultimately face.
The story of Jesus calming the storm is another great example of wonderful news for all who trust and believe in Him. A terrible storm came up with waves breaking into the boat, but Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went to him and woke him up shouting, 'Lord, save us! We are going to drown!' and Jesus replied, 'Why are you afraid? You have so little faith! He then rebuked the wind and the sea was calm once again. This story tells us that no matter what storm we are facing; Jesus is there and willing to calm it; but you have to trust Him to do it and have faith that he can and will. What better news could you get than that?
Jesus came so we MAY find life; he never says that you WILL find it; the choice is yours. The gospel gives us every tool we need to develop our faith, and believe in the good news of eternal life for all those who choose to believe. Faith is something you have to develop and in doing so, your eyes will be open to all the good news the gospels promise. The gospel tells us in James that without faith you are like a wave tossing and turning in the sea; people without faith should expect to receive nothing from the Lord for they can't make up their minds.
The bottom line here is yes, the gospel is wonderful news; full of hope and a bright future; but the key to receiving the good news is believing in it to begin with.
