Everyone at one time or another has hated a job that they just HAD to do. And when this happens, most of us want the most accessible distraction as is humanly possible. I can think of several:
1. Eating. This is a great distraction. We all need food to survive, so it is always around. And by law, our employers are required to issue intermittent breaks. So, head toward the coffee house or coffee room and chow down!
2. Doodling: While at work, our bosses pray and plead for a multi-tasker. If you pull out the phone cord at home because you've been on the phone all day at work, if can't stand calculating data, or abhor those address labels, go ahead and doodle! You will still look like you are doing your job, but you will be dutifully and deservingly distracting yourself as well.
3. Organizing: Let's face it! This is always part of most jobs, but it is a slick way to slide out of the serious components of the position for which you were hired. And it still makes 'ya look good!
4. Surfing the Internet: Computers are everywhere and will now seemingly never die. They have become a critical fixture in most office environments. But if you can sneak it in, there are plenty of things on that PC to please, too!
5. Make a doctor's appointment: Sickness is the savviest excuse to sideline! And it is just what the doctor ordered!
6. Run to the store: Run out of any needed supplies? Race to the Save-mart and save yourself the trouble of finishing your job!
7. Take your pet for a walk: If you don't have one, get one! If you have one that doesn't need to walk or could walk with coaching, create a special leash for it, register the patent, and bingo! You've bought yourself some time and created cash flow! Now how can your boss nix you for that!
