Poetry: Heart attack

You've heard about the world of HY-per-LIP-i-DE-mi-A
A word most find absurd except in academia.
Yet then you hear them say again "you better throw away
Those gastronomic pleasures you keep scarfin' down each day."

Well HYPER means excessive and a LIPID is a fat
And EMIA means in the blood and that is all of that!
So if your doctor says to you, "cholesterol is high"

A hyperlipidemia upon your life is nigh.

Cholesterol is not a fat but found in fat you eat
From Kolbe beef in Tokyo to shrimp on Market Street.
The liver too will make for you cholesterol in heaps
And add too much external fat your numbers jump in leaps.

Cholesterol, though not a fat, helps clear it from the blood,
But if you get to much of it your blood becomes like crud.
Cholesterol attacks as plaque your body's arteries,
And arteries attacked by plaque can cause calamities.

Cholesterol is also made of many varied parts
And lipoproteins when deemed bad is where the danger starts.
High density is always good, protects both heart and brain,
Low density is always bad and could lead straight to pain.

A lipoprotein is a protein now combined with fat
And measured by their densities as highs and lows and flats.
You've heard that HDL, high density, is good for health
And LDL, low density, will kill your health by stealth.

The statin drugs will lower LDL and Lipitor
Is more prescribed and analyzed than any drug before.
Low HDL is danger ranger; Lipitor will NOT
Raise HDL in any way and that means quite a lot.

For HDL helps clear the plaque from arteries inside
So if high density is raised then you've improved your ride
And you can raise your HDL by trying this advice:
Take Niacin, three grams a day, your numbers soon look nice.

Combine the Niacin with Lipitor and you create
A synergism making counts by any standard great.
And if your doctor has not heard of these two drugs combined: -
"It's simply synergistic Doc, like lovers long entwined."

    Heart Attack

    I got home today
    hung up my coat
    looked at the calendar
    moving by rote.

    There I saw the date
    looked forward a week
    realized

    But my body is tired
    and I

She fell for him, no turning back,
    Succumbing to his heart attack.
    Right from his arrival,
    She banished survival,

    A small flame
    struggles valiantly,
    the last surviving ember
    of what was once
    a soul ablaze.
    Battered by winds
    and storms of life,
