So you've been eyeing a certain someone for a little while now and you've finally made the decision that you're going to make a move. Now here comes the hard part: actually making the move. Here are a few tips to make your next move, your best move.
#Find something you have in common. - This is the easiest and best way to start a conversation with someone. If you go to school together, ask her how she likes the class, if you work together, ask her how long she's been with the company, if she's a friend of a friend, ask her how long she's known so and so. Finding something in common will break the ice and leave your new found association open for future conversations. This is also the perfect time to casually introduce yourself "Oh, I'm [Your name here], by the way. You are...?" and...Voila! You've officially met you're secret crush!
#Create an excuse. - If you don't have to opportunity to start a convo naturally, create one. Come late to class and ask her what you missed, catch amnesia and suddenly forget how to do your job. As long as you don't go to extremes i.e. accidentally bumping into her by following her every move aka stalking, there's nothing wrong with creating an excuse for you to talk to her, plus it'll be a funny story to tell you're kids about how you met.
#Keep it casual. - You're already under enough pressure, right? Don't do too much, too soon. Assuming you see this girl regularly, don't ask her out the first time. Girls generally don't like being put on the spot, so by asking her out the first time you talk to her you're asking her to either accept or reject a complete stranger. And unless you're Brad Pitt's long lost twin, it's most likely going to be reject. If she's into you and looking for more than a friendly conversation there will be obvious signs. If the signs aren't obvious, play it safe and keep it casual. Your only goal right now is to start a conversation and not mess it up. This way you'll come off as friendly and be able to approach her at a later time. The less pressure, the better for both of you.
#Be different. - Separating yourself from the rest will dramatically lessen your chances of immediate rejection. Don't ask for her number before you ask her name. Don't throw her a line she's heard a million times. So even if you don't get a date or her number the first time at least she'll remember you in a good way for the next time.
#Be confident. - Not cocky, confident. When you make that first move, know what you have to offer and know you're a good guy with good intentions (hopefully.) Confidence is your most valuable quality and the one you have the most control over. Although girls will never admit it, the right amount of confidence will make that not so cute boy in English all of a sudden very attractive.
Using one or all of these tips and tricks will definitely help take the pressure off talking to that special girl for the first time and most important it'll make it less awkward for both you and her.
