Explaining why homeschooling has gained popularity

Is there really any wonder why parents would rather home school, than send their children to public schools these days? With all of the things we hear on the news every day about bullying, shootings, and the taking away of our religious education, no one can blame parents for wanting to home school.

When I was in school, elementary and high school, we didn't have bullies, and if we did the teachers actually did something about it, as well as the parents. We had religious studies, which were mandatory, for all students, regardless of what their spiritual beliefs were, as we studied all cultures and beliefs. And, we did not have any shootings, or violence of any kind, as this was not something we were even thinking about. And I'm only 27, so its only been 10 years since I have been out of school. A lot has changed and not for the best.

When parents home school their children, not only do they know what their kids are learning, they can add to it. Parents can make sure that their kids get to go places, and do things that public schools no longer allow. I can remember when I was in ninth grade, and we went skiing as a gym class, and it was awesome, as we learned to ski, and had fun. In that same school, 13 years later, the thought of taking students skiing is so far out there, no body even bothers to bring up the idea, for fear of being laughed at. Parents can take their kids and do fun things like this, and give them quite an advantage over public school education.

The only bullies to worry about in a home school classroom is the other children in the family, and we all know mom and dad would not put up with that. Respect for others then is learned, as they are taught to treat other as they would want to be treated. And religious study is up the parent, what they do and don't want to teach their kids, but it is up to the parent and as a family they can study this together, which is lacking in todays education system, and is half the reason there is so much violence, as there is no study of personal values.

I don't have children, but I would like to believe that things will be better when my future children attend school. If they aren't then I may become a home school teacher, so that I know the value of what my child is learning, and they can be free of fear of bullies, violence, and know who God is and not be out casted.
