To be successful you must be able to excel. Setting yourself goals which are not easy to achieve yet achieving them. This might sound like a truism but you would be amazed at how many people claim they will be opening and running their own restaurant, pub or whatever, with no thought to how they will get the money, if they are willing to put in long hours orhave the necessary qualities needed to run such a business. They seem to just look at how much fun they think it will be to stand chatting to customers while they smile and have a glass of beer. Have you ever notificed that most seem to dream of a restaurant or pub. Never an abetoire, shampoo factory, refuse collection or anything which is simply hard work?
The first thing a successful entrepreneur must do is to weigh up what his qualities are. Then match them up to a suitable business that needs those qualities. Then weigh up what his weaknesses and faults are and make sure they will not hinder his progress whilst running such a business. So, for example, if he can barely read and write and has dyslexia, and cannot spell, it would be a bit silly to plan to become a World famous author.
Many people who talk about become an entrepeneur are just that. All talk. Have you noticed that they were spouting the same pipe dreams 5 years ago? Yet five years later they have not moved any further to fulfilling those prophecies and promises? The true entrepreneur just does it. There is no boasting, shouting, chatting, just doing.
He will have the determination to succeed, the ability to make quick good logical decisions, the astuteness to see promises and prevent them or sort them, a drive to do better than everyone else at all costs, whether this be the time he could spend with his partner and family and friends, weekends sailing, holidays in the Bahamas, it does not matter, as none of this is ever more important than needing to succeed.
He will be tough with his staff and customers when needed, yet friendly and helpful when things are going well. He will be resourceful. Working out ways to solve problems comes easily to him. Whether this be a need to raise money quickly, or to pull in his belt and cut down costs for a bit, or change things around so they are more effective.
He will be confident. He will never doubt his ability to achieve things. If he he is going to falter and be unsure of himself he will not succeed. He takes risks. He does not take stupid risks. He calculates them carefully.
He wants a grand lifestyle, lovely house, flash car, great holidays, but he knows he will not get them unless he makes sacrifices now. He would rather have less now and a lot more later, than settle for the average lifestyle now and in the future.
He hopes to be able to cut down his hours later or retire when young. He works towards making this possible.
He may well be a workaholic. Even if he makes millions he will still feel the buzz and the need to work hard. It is not just the money it is the challenge. Look at Sir Alan Sugar, Donald Trump. Both could easily have retired years ago. Both work very long hours. Both are incredibly rich. Yet they put rushing around earning more money before anything else.
He will be responsible and trustworthy, having a good reputation, so that those he deals with want to do business with him again.
