Survival is a relative term, when it comes to living full time in your RV.
Going on vacation has always been so much fun. You've taken the few essentials you would need to survive a couple of weeks away from home, packed them in the RV, hooked up, and away you go. If you have forgotten something important, there will always be a shopping expedition on the agenda, and eating out is the best part of getting away from it all. RV'ing on vacation is a blast.
But now you have decided that you will take it all with you. You've decided that living fulltime in your RV is what you want to do. You want to have everything you own in the whole world right there with you all the time. Or do you want to have everything with you?
Maybe you will choose to maintain a home in addition to traveling in the RV. If so, how long can you be gone before needing to check on the home place?
How can you make it all work? What decisions will need to be made?
With these questions in mind, I will tell you how hubby and I made it happen.
Having owned pop ups, and travel trailers for years we were very comfortable with the RV'ing aspect of our decision. We also knew that we would not maintain a home, that the RV would be everything we would own, and would become our primary residence.
With that decision made, we began divesting ourselves of all our worldly possessions. We passed along to the kids any furniture they wanted. All family heirlooms were passed along to their intended recipients. Hubby and I had collected items from our grandparents that were passed to nieces and nephews, along with the stories of why they were to be cherished.
Knowing that we would now be living in the RV, and not just spending a few days, there were items that were important enough to us to find a home in the RV. Beautiful and expensive wall hangings became part of the bedroom dcor. We loved the comforter set in our home, and used most of the linens and various other items in the RV. In other words, we made it our own.
We also kept our cookware set, and most of our kitchen appliances; crock pot, blender, food processor. Only you can decide, which items are absolute necessities for your lifestyle, but don't be too quick to automatically get rid of everything.
You will no longer be eating out every night like you did on vacation. There are days you will just want to pop a roast in the crock pot. There will also be days you will want to cook a big pot of chili, and invite your neighbors over
