Celebrities: Why we're completely sick of celebrity news

While not everyone has had enough of celebrity news, there are factors which contribute to "celebrity news burnout". A major proportion of the world's citizens are truly not interested in the details of the lives of minor celebrities or newcomers who have not paid their celebrity dues yet.

Some of us are just getting older or busier, and are not interested in spending time on the newest and latest entertainment. There is just not enough time to become fans of every artist, actor, or heiress that makes a reality show, film or music video. As a result, the never ending gossip about people with whom there is no emotional connection seems pointless and silly.

Of course, the millions of fans who have fallen in love with the work that earns people celebrity status want to know more about them, including how they look on a normal day, without the almost doll like makeup and costuming that is worn today. People like to see their favorites as they look without the lighting, smoke machines, airbrushing and special effects. They want to relate to a human being, not a product.

But when there is no experience that gives us something to relate to, it is irritating to get so much unwanted information. The growing crops of mid-cable reality shows, television series, and over hyped "entertainers" who produce recordings and videos by the gross, is overloading our information stream with information about people who are unknown to a lot of us.

But nothing is more irritating than to see a name, photo, or lengthy article about the petty details of a petty celebrities life, when we want to know what important things are happening. When it comes to the broadcast news, by the time a headline gets our attention, we barely hear the "who" and get part of the "what", but cannot find the rest of the story. So we go on line, but cannot find information about the story.

As a result, there is increasing resentment of the comparative weight and time that is given to celebrity news as opposed to serious news reports.

Finally, in an era of information overload, it is getting irritating to be overloaded with petty, personal information about people who are not accomplished, appealing, or deserving of attention. In some cases, the information contains shrill and outrageous allegations or announcements that are stressful and upsetting to hear or read. Aggressive attempts to get our attention should be confined to events and news that should get us excited. Too much blaring, yelling, and "breaking news" is exhausting and stressful.
