Mixing together a batch of homemade glass cleaner will not only save you money but you are also helping save the environment. All natural glass cleaners contain no chemicals and you are creating less trash that fills the landfills. These glass cleaner solutions work just as well (if not better) than the expensive commercial brands and you get the satisfaction of creating your own homemade cleaner.
Basic Window and Glass Cleaner
If you are ready to tackle your whole house, you can mix up an entire bucket of this glass cleaner. That will save you the time from having to mix up small amounts. Even if you just need a bottle for small chores, this glass cleaner recipe is the easiest one available to put together.
Large Jobs
1/2 cup white vinegar
2/3 gallon water
1 large container or bucket
Spray bottle
*Mix the ingredients together in a container or bucket and fill your spray bottle as needed. A funnel will make filling the spray bottle easier. Leftover glass cleaner can be stored in a spray bottle for later use.
Small Jobs
1/4 cup white vinegar poured into a 32 ounce spray bottle and enough water to finish filling the bottle.
Super Shine Window and Glass Cleaner
1/3 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
Spray bottle
*Pour the ingredients into a 32 ounce spray bottle, add enough water to finish filling the bottle and shake well.
To give your windows and mirrors a streak-free shine, use newspapers instead of towels or paper towels. This is another way of saving your family some money. For hard to reach outside windows, you can spray your windows with white vinegar or a vinegar/rubbing alcohol mixture and rinse your windows clean with an outdoor spray hose. Use a long-handled squeegee to wipe the water off of the windows to prevent streaks.
Rubbing alcohol should only be used on occasion for tough jobs. Homemade glass cleaners that require ammonia should be avoided. Not only is ammonia not good for your lungs, it simply isn't needed. You can create a fresh-scented window cleaner by adding essential oils to your mixture but this also isn't needed.
