While I am torn between the two arguments, the fact remains that we are committed to this, and therefore must see it through.
America, for the majority of its existence, has been a nation built upon the basic principals of democracy. And democracy is the fundamental element for a free society. Imagine if America was a communist country; I strongly believe that if that were so, this nation would be in far worse shape than it is today.
As many people of America will say, life is good. Is life good all around the world, for all the earth's people? Until the answer to that question is a huge, resounding and all encompassing yes, we should never stop fighting for a better world. Life is not good for Iraq, so why should we sit on a couch watching T.V and stuffing our faces with nachos when some are struggling against starvation, fear and oppression
Imagine for a minute if all our troops where suddenly withdrawn from Iraq. We would face international backlash for abandoning a cause that we promoted, and for leaving the defenseless people of Iraq to their fate. Whether or not the Iraq war should have ever occurred is now a meaningless question.
We have dedicated ourselves to defend those less fortunate than ourselves, to defend those who hold true to the acts of virtue and kindness, and to defend those that seek the freedom of democracy.
Iraq is in many ways like Vietnam. While one has been labeled a War on Communism, and one has been labeled a War on Terror, they have both been fought for the same basic principal - Freedom.
America holds the position of one of the last true super powers of the world. And as we have constantly prided ourselves on being the so called "police" of the world (A statement I believe is exaggerated, but true in the sense that we hold a major amount of influence), and it is time to prove that we are worthy of the responsibility of holding a position of power.
How can a so called "free" nation that is also the most influential country on earth possibly justify leaving less fortunate country's to live in terror and fear?
Freedom is something every single person on earth deserves, and if that isn't a cause worth fighting for, America might as well disband their armed forces for all the good they'll bring into this world.
