At the time it seemed like a tidal wave
Trying to push me too deep to be saved
The lifeguards were very poor at their jobs
Making small talk as my lungs became water logged
I can't remember how I made it to land
Coughing up water for the thirsty sand
I said "I'm never going outside again"
Mother earth has a taste for the blood of man
Many more have it worse than I
Just another reason to stay inside
But there is more than just danger gone
A safe man sings a lonely song
I think I saw the answer
In my grandfather's eyes
Every scar tells a story
And stories never flatline
Our bodies may stop working
But we will never die
