The key to adding songs to an iPod is through the computer programme "iTunes". Every iPod you purchase will come with either an installation disc for iTunes or alternatively a guide to download it from the internet. If you do not have an internet connection (and you do not get an installation disc, for instance with the purchase of the iPod Shuffle) then you will have to purchase an installation disc for iTunes at your nearest store specialising in computers. The installation of iTunes is fairly simple and follows the same basic layout of the installation of any software package that you will encounter.
-Via iTunes Store-
Downloading songs via the iTunes store is arguably the easiest (but not necessarily the most cost effective) way to add songs to your iPod. Firstly, you must open up iTunes on your computer, go to the iTunes store. If you have not used to store before you will have to register a user login email address and payment information. Once this process is complete you are free to download songs. These downloaded songs will be added to a "Purchased" playlist which will appear on the left-hand menu if you are viewing iTunes in the linear mode, which can be selected at the top right. Once you have downloaded the tracks you wish to be added to your iPod you can simply plug in your iPod via the provided USB cable and the tracks will automatically be copied directly onto your iPod. If you have iPod with a lower capacity such as a Shuffle or a Nano then you may be required to drag the songs you wish to add to the iTunes library onto the iPod shortcut on the left-hand side of your menu screen.
If you are lucky enough to have an iPod which is connected to a Wi-Fi network then you will be able to your iPod via the menu screen, logging in and downloading the track. This is convenient as it means tracks can be downloaded on the iPod without the need of a computer or the USB cable.
-Via CD-
If you have recently purchased a CD and you wish to add its contents to your iTunes library and then to the iPod then this is just as easy.
Firstly you should put the CD into your CD/DVD drive and wait for it to load up onto your iTunes screen. Once this simple task has been achieved you can untick items that you do not want to import into your iTunes library (to the left hand side of the tracks there will be blue boxes). If you have internet connection that you can go into the "Advanced" menu at the top and select "Get Track Names" in order to get all of the correct information
